PS5 and PlayStation 5 Digital Edition: what are the differences and what changes?
Sony's next-gen console will come on the market during the Christmas holidays this year in two different models: one equipped with an Ultra HD (4K) Blu-Ray unit, and another without the player called Digital Edition. This, necessarily, will also result in a rather evident aesthetic difference: the model equipped with a reader is more voluminous, since it has a rounded shape at the bottom right (and positioned vertically where the disk drive resides , while the Digital Edition is symmetrical and more slender. In this regard, Sony's Sid Shuman said: "Although there are small differences in the appearance of each model, in general we wanted to offer a console with a gritty, extraordinary design and different from any previous generation of PlayStation ".
The choice to produce a model exclusively dedicated to the general use has been dictated by the sudden changes that the habits of the players have undergone in recent years." Many of our customers nowadays only buy digitally, "said Sony PlayStation President and CEO Jim Ryan." We thought we would do what we we have always tried to make, simply offer a choice ".
The presence or absence of the player will be the only technical / aesthetic aspect that will differentiate the two models of PlayStation 5, which will therefore present under the hood the same components, including the same 825 GB high speed SSD. Obviously the price will also change: the Digital Edition will certainly be cheaper, even if at the moment it is difficult to quantify the savings, given that Sony has not yet announced the official prices of PlayStation 5.
