After the test carried out in the four pilot regions - Abruzzo, Liguria, Marche and Puglia - and the over 2.5 million downloads from the Android, Huawei and Apple stores, the app starts nationwide. Immuni aims to notify its users of the possibility of having been less than two meters away, in the previous 14 days, from a subject tested positive for the Covid-19 swab.

How does it work?

The application is for voluntary use and the data of its users are protected with respect for privacy, guaranteeing their anonymity. In practice, the application generates a random code that is exchanged, via bluetooth low energy, with the devices of other Immuni users with whom it comes in contact.

Those who test positive for the buffer can choose to upload the test result to the application server, in order to send anonymous notification to users with whom it has had close contacts. Through bluetooth, the application manages to keep track of possible contact that has occurred without knowing the identity of the positive subject or the geographic position of any contact.

The test carried out by the four pilot regions served to correct the any bugs and run in the system before the actual national launch. In Liguria, in the past few days, three positive users have activated the notification system.

At the moment there are over 2.5 million users that have downloaded the application. For the minister of innovation Paola Pisano, who has run the game app, developed by the milan-based company Bending Spoons, and based on a protocol from Apple and Google , “ the greater the number of people that download the app, the greater the possibility that you will be notified if you come in contact with a positive case ”.

Not all devices, however, support the application, therefore, it is useful to refer to the site of Immune for more information. Alternatively, there is a technical assistance service at the toll-free number 800912491, running from 7 to 22.
