Dropbox announces Passwords, Vault and backup

Anticipated in recent weeks by some corridor rumors circulating on the Net, the Dropbox Passwords application is officially announced today by the group. The name chosen is already quite explanatory in itself to understand what it is and what it is used for: it saves access credentials to services, platforms and sites keeping them safe and taking care of their automatic insertion when necessary during authentication.

News for Dropbox: Passwords and Vault are coming At the moment it cannot be downloaded by everyone yet. It is in beta phase, provided privately and exclusively to a limited number of users who have subscribed to the Plus subscription. On balance it performs a function very similar to that of better known alternatives such as 1Password or LastPass, but in a profound way integrated into the service. Here is what we read in the speech on the pages of the official blog.

The Passwords application saves your passwords in a safe place and automatically inserts them so as to instantly authenticate on websites and apps. Now available for selected Dropbox Plus users with a private beta, Passwords allows you to authenticate anywhere via applications on Windows, macOS, Android and iOS devices. Passwords secures credentials with zero-knowledge encryption so as to keep them protected and accessible only to the owner.

Vault is instead a space offered by cloud storage in which to place the most important documents and sensitive nature, which adds an additional layer of security to those already implemented by the platform. There they can be protected with a six-digit PIN and rely on encryption at every stage of their management: from upload to download, up to permanence on the servers.

added To this is the automatic backup of folders present in the PC, already available in beta for users on Windows and macOS subscribers to the formulas of the Basic, Plus and Professional platform.
